Johnnie English Reborn

Rowan Atkinson's face is enough to make us laugh but when he actually says or does just about anything, accidents and hilarity follow. In Johnny English, Atkinson has found the ideal character for his kind of humour, in which the more responsibility his character has, the less likely he is to get it right.

In this new adventure, complete with caricatures of characters, elements and plot points from the James Bond franchise, English is a disgraced agent of MI7 and keeping a low profile in a remote Tibetan Buddhist monastery learning (among other things) how to survive heavy kicks to his genitals by pulling a large stone attached to a string.

English is reluctantly summoned by MI7 (Anderson is the rough equivalent of Judi Dench in recent James Bond films), because a vital informant has said they will speak only to English.

The plot centres on a special set of three interlocking stainless-steel keys that open the container holding a powerful mind-control drug, which can be used to make a man (or woman) do the unthinkable - such as assassinate the Chinese Premier.
Dominic West is effective as fellow agent Simon and Rosamund Pike is superb as Kate, the behaviour specialist who finds English fascinating - and loveable. Pike plays it absolutely straight, as does West, which is to the film's great advantage.
Some of the film's laughs are laugh-out-loud and others are somewhat muted but we know it's only a matter of time before a punch becomes a punchline. Action and humour are all rolled in together as the thrills of a spy story collide with Atkinson's inspired buffoonery.

The Dark Knight Rises

The Dark Knight Rises is an upcoming American superhero film under the development of Christopher Nolan, David S. Goyer, and Jonathan Nolan. Based on the DC Comics character Batman, the film will be the third and final installment in Nolan's Batman film series. The Dark Knight Rises will see the return of Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, and Morgan Freeman as Batman/Bruce Wayne, Alfred Pennyworth, James Gordon, and Lucius Fox, respectively. The film will introduce the characters of Selina Kyle and Bane—portrayed by Anne Hathaway and Tom Hardy—two central characters from the comic books.

Nolan was initially hestitant about returning to the series for a third time, but agreed to come back after developing a story with his brother and David Goyer that he felt would conclude the series on a satisfactory note. Filming has taken place across the world, including locations in India, London, Glasgow, Los Angeles, New York, and Pittsburgh. Nolan is opting to utilize IMAX cameras for more of the filming to optimize the quality of the picture. As with The Dark Knight, viral marketing campaigns began early during production to help promote the upcoming film. The Dark Knight Rises is scheduled for release in the United States and Canada on July 20, 2012, by Warner Bros.

The Big Year Movie

The Big Year is an upcoming comedy movie adapted from Mark Obmascik's 1998 book "The Big Year: A Tale of Man, Nature and Fowl Obsession". The story focuses on three avid bird watchers who compete to spot the rarest birds in North America at a prestigious annual event. The film is directed by David Frankel based on a script by Howard Franklin. The cast includes Steve Martin, Jack Black, Owen Wilson, Rashida Jones, Angelica Huston, Jim Parsons, and Rosamund Pike. The movie will be released on October 14, 2011.

Warrior Movie 2011

To say this film was about brothers competing to win a championship would be true, but of course, the story is much more complicated than the trailers would lead you to believe. As the stories of this family unfold, it quickly becomes not about the championship, but about their relationship. Director Gavin O’Connor, who also co-wrote and co-produced Warrior, manages to tell a story of a family that is complicated and messy but ultimately hopeful. More often then not, sports movies focus on one side of the struggle: the underdog player, the underdog team, etc. However, in this film, we get to see all sides, and in many ways, each are an underdog.

Each character has an incredible level of depth and that was brought wonderfully to screen by the actors. Tom Hardy (Inception, Bronson) is scary good as Tommy Conlon, the quiet war vet, coming out of nowhere to crush every opponent. His dialogue is minimal, yet he his able to convey a deep level of emotion in every scene. It’s easy to see his brewing anger and vulnerability even as he drinks a cup of coffee.
Nick Nolte returns to the screen in triumphant fashion as a father trying to win back the respect of his sons. The role was literally written for him and he brings a sadness and complexity that will surely garner attention.

The only other film I’d seen Joel Edgerton in was Smokin’ Aces. He played the dim-witted Russian bodyguard with a silly haircut. I was honestly surprised to see him in this, but he was perfectly cast as Brendan, the father and high school teacher. He was just as comfortable playing with his children as he was fighting in the ring. Brendan’s wife, Tess, (Jennifer Morrison, Fox’s House M.D.) was herself a complex character and added a lot of value to the scenes with him. Their relationship was a cornerstone of the storyline.

I will also say that I’ve noticed a pattern lately of intense opening sequences (so much so that I was expecting it in this

film). They can be used rather well, but with Warrior, the intensity builds slowly and I found it to be much more rewarding. Sure there are intense moments, but they are not meant as a single occurrence, but are actually key parts of the film.

Having directed the 2003 HBO documentary on a fighter in the MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) titled, The Smashing Machine: The Life and Times of Mark Kerr, Gavin O’Connor captured an amazingly realistic view of the fighting. Not that I am an authority whatsoever, but during the fight scenes, I found myself almost shifting in my seat to get a better look. To me, that’s the ultimate level of realism. Although the film uses MMA as the sports backdrop, the film appeals to the same audience as any other sports film would. Overcoming against all odds works in even the most unlikeliest of sports.
The best aspect of the film though, was the complicated relationship between the father and two brothers. I wanted to see more of it. I wanted to see more of how Tommy interacted with his father. I wasn’t as attached to it emotionally as I could have been. I had sympathy for all the characters and although I was moved at the end, it didn’t quite have the emotional punch I was wanted throughout the course of the film.

The pace was very smooth and deliberate, so it does not seem like two hours. The film has a wide appeal and although it’s heavy on action, it really has a enjoyable drama that will satisfy all audiences.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is a 1974 British spy novel by John le Carré, featuring George Smiley. Smiley is a middle-aged, taciturn, perspicacious intelligence expert in forced retirement. He is recalled to hunt down a Soviet mole in the "Circus", the highest echelon of the Secret Intelligence Service. In keeping with le Carré's work, the narrative begins in medias res with the repatriation of a captured British spy. The background is supplied during the book through a series of flashbacks.

Chronology

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is the first novel of the Karla Trilogy, the second and third novels being The Honourable Schoolboy (1977) and Smiley's People (1979), later published in an omnibus edition as The Quest for Karla (1982). These are the fifth, sixth, and seventh Le Carré spy novels featuring George Smiley.

Title

Control, the Circus Chief, assigns the code names "Tinker", "Tailor", "Soldier", "Poorman" and "Beggarman" to various senior intelligence officers under suspicion of being a Soviet mole. The names are derived from the English children's rhyme "Tinker, Tailor". In the book, "Sailor" is not used as it sounds too much like "Tailor" and "Rich Man" is not used as it is not a single word. "Thief" is also not used.

Plot

Through a love affair with the wife of a Moscow Centre intelligence officer, British agent Ricki Tarr discovers that there may be a high-ranking Soviet mole within the Circus. Tarr alerts Oliver Lacon, the Civil Service officer responsible for the Intelligence Services, and Lacon enlists Peter Guillam and retired agent George Smiley, to investigate. Smiley and Guillam must investigate without the knowledge of Circus leadership, which is headed by Percy Alleline and his deputies Bill Haydon, Roy Bland, and Toby Esterhase, as any of these could be the mole.

Smiley suspects that the mole was responsible for the failure of Operation Testify, a mission in Communist Czechoslovakia whose ostensible purpose was the kidnapping of a Czech Army general. Operation Testify ended with Circus agent Jim Prideaux shot in the back, and caused the disgrace and dismissal of Control, former head of Circus, who has since died. Prideaux, who survived and was repatriated, reveals to Smiley that Control suspected the mole's existence and the true aim of Operation Testify was to discover the mole's identity.

Percy Alleline, who was Control's rival, has risen to prominence as a result of seemingly top-grade Soviet intelligence from a source code-named "Merlin". Smiley's investigation leads him to believe that the Merlin source is false, and is being used by Moscow Centre to influence the leadership of Circus. Cleverly, Moscow Centre has induced Circus leadership to believe that Merlin maintains his cover in Moscow by feeding them British intelligence from a false Circus mole. As a result, Circus leadership cover up any rumours of a mole, thus protecting the actual mole.

Smiley contrives a trap for the real mole using a communication from Tarr, and the mole is revealed to be Bill Haydon, a respected colleague and former friend who once had an affair with Smiley's estranged wife. Haydon acknowledges he was recruited by Karla, the Moscow Centre spymaster. Haydon is to be exchanged with the Soviets, but is killed before he leaves England. Though his killer is not explicitly revealed, it is strongly implied to be Prideaux, whose motivation was revenge.

Smiley is appointed temporary head of Circus to deal with the fallout.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is John le Carré’s novelisation of his experiences of the revelations in the 1950s and the 1960s which exposed the Cambridge Five traitors, among them Guy Burgess, Donald Maclean, Anthony Blunt, John Cairncross and Kim Philby, as KGB moles employed by the SIS.

George Smiley, master spy of the Circus, is modelled upon Maurice Oldfield, an SIS chief although le Carré has denied this link.

Karla is modelled either after Markus Wolf, chief of the HVA (Main Reconnaissance Administration) of the MfS (Ministerium für Staatssicherheit) of East Germany (although le Carré denied this in an interview with Charlie Rose in 1996); or after KGB Gen. Rem Krassilnikov, whose obituary in the New York Times newspaper reported that the CIA considered him as such. Moreover, skewing in favour of the latter, Smiley reports that Karla was trained by "Berg", Alexander Mikhailovich Orlov, a KGB intelligence officer who defected to the West in 1938.

Bill Haydon derives from Kim Philby, who, in the late 1950s, transcended SIS suspicions that he too might be a traitor, given his connection with the defector Guy Burgess, and continued as an SIS intelligence officer until defecting to the USSR in 1963.

Connie Sachs, the Circus's principal researcher, is modelled upon Millicent Bagot.

In June 2008, The Guardian newspaper reported that Peter Morgan and John le Carré were writing a cinematic adaptation of the novel Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, for Working Title Films and to be directed by Tomas Alfredson.Daily Mail film columnist Baz Bamigboye reported in June 2010 that Gary Oldman is going to play George Smiley.Colin Firth, Tom Hardy and Benedict Cumberbatch, as Peter Guillam, have also signed up for the film. Mark Strong will appear as Jim Prideaux.

The Change-Up is a comedy film produced and directed by David Dobkin, written by Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, and starring Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman.The film was released on August 5, 2011 in North America by Universal Pictures.

Plot

Growing up together, Mitch Planko and Dave Lockwood (Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman) were two inseparable best friends, but as the years have passed, they have slowly drifted apart. While Dave is an overworked lawyer, husband and father of three children, Mitch has remained a single, quasi-employed man-child who has never met a responsibility he liked. To Mitch, Dave has it all: his beautiful wife Jamie (Leslie Mann), kids who adore him and a high-paying job at a prestigious law firm. To Dave, living Mitch's stress-free life without obligation or consequence would be a dream come true.

Following a drunken night out together, Mitch and Dave's worlds are turned upside down when they wake up in each other's bodies and proceed to freak out. Despite the freedom from their normal routines and habits, the guys soon discover that each other's lives are nowhere near as rosy as they once seemed. Further complicating matters are Dave's sexy legal associate, Sabrina McArdle (Olivia Wilde) and Mitch's estranged father, Mitch, Sr. (Alan Arkin). With time not on their side, Mitch and Dave struggle to avoid completely destroying each other's lives before they can find a way to get their old ones back.

Filming

Several of the bar scenes were shot on location at a bar called Joe's on Juniper, in Midtown Atlanta.

The film was shot in Atlanta, Georgia. There were open castings at Turner Field and other venues in Atlanta.

Reception

As of August 30, 2011, the film has received generally negative reviews, attaining a 22% aggregate approval rating based on 113 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with a rating average of 4.5 out of 10.[10] The site's consensus is that "there's a certain amount of fun to be had from watching Bateman and Reynolds play against type, but it isn't enough to carry The Change-Up through its crude humor and formulaic plot."[10] The film also received a score of 40 out of 100 from review aggregate Metacritic, which indicates "mixed or average", based on 34 reviews.

REVIEW

"The Change-Up" is one of the dirtiest-minded mainstream releases in history. It has a low opinion of men, a lower opinion of women, and the lowest opinion of the intelligence of its audience. It is obscene, foulmouthed, scatological, creepy and perverted. As a bonus, it has the shabbiest low-rent main titles I've seen this side of YouTube.

It is a body-switch comedy. You remember those. There must have been dozens. Through some sort of magic, two characters find themselves occupying each other's bodies, or their own bodies at different ages. This can be charming, as when Tom Hanks did it in "Big" (1988) or Jodie Foster in "Freaky Friday" (1976). And remember Francis Coppola's "Peggy Sue Got Married" (1986), with Kathleen Turner becoming herself as a teenager?

To mention such movies in connection with this one is a sacrilege. Putting aside considerations of the story, "The Change-Up" sets out to violate and transgress as many standards of civilized conduct as it can. Don't get me wrong. Faithful readers know I treasure cheerful vulgarity. But readers, I've seen "The Hangover," and this is no "The Hangover."

Here you will see projectile pooping into faces. Two men exposing themselves and urinating in a "magic fountain" in a shopping mall in the presence of small children. Three tattoo artists closely scrutinizing a woman's vagina. Women systematically required to bare their breasts. Language in which non-obscene words provide an oasis. Best buddies essentially sharing the same wife.

OK, OK. In the context of a different movie, I can imagine all of those things working in a comedy. Except the public pissing. I think we can all agree that's problematical. So let's get back to the bare breasts. There are a great many of them, frequently and roughly fondled, for one reason only, and it isn't eroticism. If it were, I would sympathize. It has to do with the systematic exploitation of every actress in a film where God forbid an actor would be asked to display his penis. (We don't see penises in the urination scene. Only the kids can.)

Now consider the leading characters. They are Mitch (Ryan Reynolds), a pothead layabout, and Dave (Jason Bateman), an attorney and father of three. They've been best friends since grade school. They envy each other's lives. Through pissing in the fountain, they switch bodies and find out what that would be like.

This involves Mitch, in Dave's body, moving in with Dave's wife, Jamie (Leslie Mann), and Dave involved in Mitch's budding career as a porn actor. There is also a key role for Sabrina (Olivia Wilde), a legal aide at the law firm, who seduces Dave in the body of Mitch.

Never mind who does what and with which and to whom. The problem is that the movie requires us to accept this premise by making the characters aggressively stupid. Assume for the moment you are Jamie. Two men appearing to be your husband and his buddy Mitch claim their minds are in each other's bodies. They tell you to ask them something the other guy wouldn't know. She asks "Mitch" what "his" wedding anniversary is. Of course he doesn't remember. But asking some men for their wedding anniversary is almost a gotcha! question. For women, a wedding anniversary is as ingrained as New Year's Day. For men, it is more like Easter, and you can never remember what day it falls on this year.

A few more questions, and the testing ends. Mitch and Dave give up and reconcile themselves to their fates. Dave moves into Mitch's bachelor pad. Mitch moves into Dave's suburban home. Say what? If you found your mind in another body, wouldn't that be profoundly disturbing? Would it leave you capable of performing the duties in a movie comedy?

One problem with the movie is that it requires us to remind ourselves constantly which of these two pleasant-looking thirtysomethings is which. Another problem is that no matter which, they are both low and crude beings with no respect for decency, and their language is foul beyond the call of fictional necessity. The film, in fact, seems to go out of its way to be vulgar and offensive, as if "adult" audiences crave such an assault. Anyone who enjoys this film cannot fairly be considered an adult. Pity about the R rating. It will keep out those callow enough to enjoy it.

Plot

The story centers on a small-town idiot who stumbles upon a family secret: His quiet and demure parents were famous porn stars in the 1970s. This motivates him to leave northern Iowa for Hollywood, hoping to follow in their footsteps and fulfill his destiny as the biggest adult-film star in the world.

Real Steel - Movie

Real Steel is an upcoming 2011 American science fiction film starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Shawn Levy. The film is based on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson, though Levy replaced the story's dystopian setting with U.S. state fairs and other "old-fashioned" Americana settings. Real Steel was in development for several years before production began in June of 2010. Filming took place primarily in the U.S. state of Michigan. Animatronic robots were built for the film, and motion capture technology was used to depict the brawling of computer-generated robots. Real Steel is scheduled to be released in both conventional and IMAX theatres on October 7, 2011.

In the year 2020, robots have replaced humans in boxing. Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) loses a chance to become a boxing champion when robots take over, and he becomes a small-time promoter. When he has difficulty making a living, he reluctantly teams up with his son Max (Dakota Goyo) to build a robot that can contend for the championship.

Production

Real Steel is directed by Shawn Levy and is based on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson, which was also an episode of The Twilight Zone. The original screenplay was written by Dan Gilroy and was purchased by DreamWorks in 2005 for $850,000. (The Hollywood Reporter said DreamWorks purchased the project in 2003.)The project was one of 17 that DreamWorks took from Paramount Pictures when they split in 2008.

Director Peter Berg expressed interest in the project in mid-2009 but moved on.Levy was attached to the project in September 2009, and actor Hugh Jackman was cast in the starring role in the following November. In the same month, Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider at DreamWorks greenlit the project. Variety said insiders reported a budget of $80 million.Les Bohem and Jeremy Leven had worked on Gilroy's screenplay, but in 2009, John Gatins was working on a new draft.When Levy joined the project, he worked with Gatins to revise the screenplay. In the short story, Matheson illustrates a cold-feeling dystopia, but Levy chose to set the film in state fairs and other "old-fashioned" Americana settings that would exude nostalgia and create a warmer tone for the film's father-son story.

Filming began in June 2010, taking place primarily in Michigan. Locations include those around Detroit and across the state; including scenes filmed at a quarry in the norther suburb of Oxford. Filmmakers built 19 animatronic robots to feature in scenes with human actors. For scenes when computer-generated robots brawl, motion capture technology was used. Boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard was an adviser for these scenes.

In April of 2011, months before the film's release, DreamWorks announced they were developing a sequel to Real Steel. John Gatins, who contributed to the screenplay for the first film, will write the screenplay for the second.

Marketing

DreamWorks released the first trailer for Real Steel in December of 2010.In May of 2011, the studio released a second trailer. While the film features boxing robots, Levy said he wanted to show in the trailer "the father-son drama, the emotion, the kind of rousing sports movie, the Americana of it". He said, "We are very much the robo-boxing movie, but that’s one piece of a broader spectrum."In addition to marketing trailers and posters, DreamWorks enlisted the British advertising company Five33 to build large physical displays representing the film as it had done for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Men in Black III, stylized MIB3 and previously entitled Men in Black III-D, is an upcoming 3D science fiction comedy film starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. It will be released as the sequel to Men in Black II on May 25, 2012, ten years after its predecessor, and will also star Josh Brolin and Jemaine Clement, with Barry Sonnenfeld returning as director, and Steven Spielberg returning as executive producer. The film is the third entry in the popular Men in Black film series which is based on the Malibu comic book series The Men in Black by Lowell Cunningham. Principal photography began in New York City on November 16, 2010.

Production

The film was first announced on April 1, 2009 by Sony Pictures Entertainment president, Rory Bruer, during a Sony ShoWest presentation. In October 2009, it was revealed that Etan Cohen, writer of Tropic Thunder and Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, had been attached to write a screenplay for the film. In March 2010, it was reported that Will Smith was deciding whether to join this film or another film, The City That Sailed, instead.The return of the two protagonists played by Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith was officially confirmed by director Barry Sonnenfeld in May 2010.Both had previously expressed interest in reprising their roles back in 2008.Other producing staff include Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald as producers with Steven Spielberg as executive producer, all three were producers for previous films in the series.

In June a second writer, David Koepp, who wrote Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible and Spider-Man, as well as uncredited work on the original Men In Black, had also been attached to re-write the film's original script. A teaser trailer for the film was leaked online on June 11, 2010. It showed Will Smith dressed as Agent J wearing 3-D glasses and stating "I'm about to make 3-D look good." A teaser poster for the film was also released on September 21, 2010. A third writer, Jeff Nathanson, who wrote Rush Hour 2, Rush Hour 3, Catch Me If You Can and The Terminal has also been hired in November 2010 to rewrite parts of the script.Both writers, Jeff Nathanson and David Koepp along with producer Steven Spielberg had all previously worked together on the 2008 film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Principal photography began on November 16, 2010. It was originally slated to commence on October 18, 2010, and continue until May 2011 in New York City, with shooting starting in 2010 partly in order to take advantage of a New York tax break in which the state rebates 30 percent of production costs incurred there. Filming was split into two parts, the first taking place from November until about Christmas 2010; the filmmakers announced shooting would begin again in mid-February, but it was delayed until April.

The first set photos for the film turned up online on November 17, 2010 showing Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Emma Thompson, and Nicole Scherzinger on set.Shooting was scheduled resume from March through June 2011. Filming was done in April 2011 in the Morris Park section of The Bronx.Parts of Coney Island, in Brooklyn, had parking and filming permits posted for April 24 and May 2-4, 2011, production dates of what the permits titled MIB³.

Paranormal Activity 3 is an upcoming 2011 American supernatural horror film and third film of the Paranormal Activity series, which will be set 18 years before the events of both Paranormal Activity and Paranormal Activity 2. It will be released in theaters on October 21, 2011.The third film takes place in 1988, when Katie and Kristi were kids. While trying to get video proof of Bloody Mary, Katie and Kristi are first confronted by the monstrous demon haunting them in the first and second movies.
In an interview with Dread Central, director and producer, Oren Peli, stated that Paramount Pictures was given the greenlight to begin production of Paranormal Activity 3. Production on the film began in June.The film will be directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (who both directed the documentary Catfish). Jason Blum, Steven Schneider and Oren Peli produced, along with Akiva Goldsman serving as executive producer. The script was written by Christopher B. Landon. The sequel has a planned release date of October 21, 2011.

Plot

Beth Emhoff (Gwyneth Paltrow) goes to Hong Kong on a business trip to participate in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new factory. While in Hong Kong, Beth visits a casino and plays a dice game with colleagues from the plant. Once the ceremony is complete, Beth flies back to her husband, Mitch Emhoff (Matt Damon), and son Clark Morrow (Griffin Kane). Later that night Beth collapses on the floor in what appears to be a seizure. Beth is rushed to a Minneapolis-area hospital for treatment and succumbs to an unknown cause. Mitch is informed that his wife has passed away and is asked to come in the next day to give information regarding possible causes of Beth's death. Mitch's only assistance is that Beth complained of jet lag.

Dr. Ellis Cheever (Laurence Fishburne) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention manages an investigation into thirty-two disease related deaths, all exhibiting similar symptoms. He sends Dr. Erin Mears (Kate Winslet), an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer to Minneapolis to begin the investigation and traceback. Dr. Mears struggles to identify common aspects of the disease, interviewing almost all of the initial cases, and those around them. Back at CDC, representatives from the Department of Homeland Security become involved over fears that the disease is a bioweapon. In one exchange, Dr. Cheever deadpans that avian flu didn't need human intervention to become deadly - the birds and virus did it on its own. Investigations into cures via treatment protocols or vaccines prove fruitless. As the contagion spreads, hearings are set up to discuss possible solutions, airports within the state are shut down, and the national guard is deployed to Minneapolis to cordon off the city, set up treatment centers and provide general order. In an effort to quell public concern, Dr. Cheever appears on a news talk show to discuss the disease; only to find out that the show hypothesizes a billion person outbreak around the globe.

Over the course of her investigation, Dr. Mears becomes infected with the disease, now dubbed MEV-1. She discovers this after waking in the middle of the night in her hotel room exhibiting a fever, sweats, and other initial signs and symptoms of MEV-1 infection. Despite her illness, she continues to do her duty as an EIS officer, requesting the information for all hotel employees who have contacted her in an apparent attempt to stem the spread of the infection. The Minnesota National Guard arrives to quarantine the city, and Dr. Mears is moved to the field medical station she helped set up. Dr. Mears contacts Dr. Cheever for assistance in egressing the city. Dr. Cheever attempts to mount an effort but is thwarted by others viewing his efforts as a nepotistic play.

Meanwhile, fearing the cordoning efforts Mitch and his daughter head north from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area east to the Wisconsin state line. Arriving at the Minnesota/Wisconsin border, Mitch and his daughter encounter a choke point manned by National Guard troops preventing anyone from leaving the state. Mitch returns home to handle the aftermath of surviving in a society coming apart.

Shark Night 3D is a 3-D horror-thriller film directed by David R. Ellis. It stars Sara Paxton, Alyssa Diaz, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, and Joel David Moore. The film was released in Real D 3D and Digital 3D.

Plot

Set in Louisiana, seven Tulane undergraduates – Sara (Sara Paxton), Nick (Dustin Milligan), Beth (Katharine McPhee), Malik (Sinqua Walls), Maya (Alyssa Diaz), Blake (Chris Zylka) and Gordon (Joel David Moore) – drive to Sara's family vacation home on a secluded private lake near Lake Pontchartrain. At a local bait shop, Sara encounters her old boyfriend, Dennis (Chris Carmack) and his friend, Red (Joshua Leonard). Dennis and Red make racial taunts to Malik and Maya, his Latina fiancee, but Sara diffuses the situation. Sara drives a speedboat recklessly to the vacation home, attracting the attention of Sheriff Sabin (Donal Logue). He chases her, frightening her friends, but then happily shares a beer with them. He tells Sara he is happy to see her back after a three-year-long absence.

While Gordon tries to seduce Beth and Sara sunbathes, Nick, Blake, Malik and Maya go waterskiing. A shark pursues Malik and attacks him. Nick, Blake and Maya try to rescue him, but he swims back to shore – missing his right arm. When Nick swims out into the lake to retrieve his arm, he is stalked and pursued by the shark. Nick barely makes it back to shore. A pre-med student, he stabilizes Malik, then goes with Sara and Maya to take him to a hospital. However, blood dripping from Malik's wound attracts a shark that attacks the boat. Maya is knocked into the water and eaten. The shark then damages the steering column of the boat. It crashes into the gas pump in front of the boathouse, exploding and stranding everyone. Sara, Nick and Malik barely make it to shore. Because their cell phones have no reception and the house has no landline, they cannot call for help.

Dennis and Red arrive and agree to take Beth and Gordon to the mainland. Nick refuses to allow Malik to be moved. On the boat trip, Red suggests the sharks have entered the lake due to a storm surge from a hurricane – then offers a more ominous, vague theory that someone put them there. Dennis reveals that he and Red have put the sharks there and feed uppity college students to them. Dennis forces Gordon into the water; he manages to swim to and climb a nearby mangrove tree but is devoured by a mako shark when it leaps from the water and picks him off the trunk. Red and Dennis then feed Beth to cookiecutter sharks.

When Blake tells Malik that Maya was killed by a shark, Malik arms himself with a harpoon and ventures into the water to kill it. His bloody wound attracts a hammerhead shark; he kills it but is further wounded in the process. Nick and Blake pull the shark to shore, and Nick realizes that it wasn't the shark that took Malik's arm. He also finds a camera attached to its belly. Blake decides to take Malik to the mainland on a jet ski. When Malik sees them being pursued by sharks and realizing that Blake can travel faster without him, Malik sacrifices himself. But Blake is killed when an enormous great white shark breaches from the lake and plucks him off the jet ski.

Sheriff Sabin visits Sara and Nick. He gives them soup to calm them, and appears to use his police radio to call for help. Nick passes out. When Sara goes to the kitchen to get a towel, she finds her dog has also passed out after eating the soup Sabin brought. Sara takes a knife and is about to attack Sabin when Dennis disarms her. Dennis and Red take Sara out on their boat, while Sabin takes Nick to the boathouse and prepares to dunk him into the lake where tiger sharks await. Sabin reveals that he, Dennis and Red have been inspired by the Discovery Channel's Shark Week and Faces of Death videos to film and make available to thrill seekers on the Internet live footage of people being eaten by sharks. When Sabin is distracted by the CD player, Nick frees himself then ignites an overturned can of gas. Badly burned, Sabin plunges into the lake and is eaten by the tiger sharks.

Dennis reveals he is still bitter at Sara for leaving him after their last diving date three years earlier. Sara was unnerved by two accidents that occurred that day: her sudden loss of air (and Dennis's apparent lack of concern), and her slashing his face open with the boat propeller when she tried to escape him. After throwing her dog into the lake, Dennis and Red lower her, in a shark cage, into the lake. A ravenous mako shark appears, but so does Nick, who tries to hold Red hostage and force Dennis to free Sara. Instead, Dennis throws a knife into Red, killing him. Nick and Dennis struggle in the water. The mako eats Dennis then attacks the cage. Sara's dog brings a spear to Nick, and he uses it to kill the shark and free Sara. Nick, Sara and the dog swim to the boat. Just as they think they are safe, the great white breaches the surface and lunges towards them.

Production

Principal photography took place in the fall of 2010 in Louisiana around the Ark-La-Tex and at Caddo Lake in Uncertain, Texas.

The film was originally titled Shark Night 3D, but Ellis has stated he would rather have the title be Untitled 3D Shark Thriller.However, in March 2011, Box Office Mojo indicated that the title had gone back to Shark Night 3D.

The Avengers is an upcoming American superhero film produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Pictures, based upon the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which crosses over several Marvel superhero films including Iron Man (2008), The Incredible Hulk (2008), Iron Man 2 (2010), Thor (2011) and Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). The film is written and directed by Joss Whedon and features an ensemble cast, which includes Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo and Cobie Smulders. The Avengers tells the story of Nick Fury, director of the peacekeeping organization S.H.I.E.L.D., who recruits Iron Man, Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to save the world from destruction.

Development of The Avengers began when Marvel Studios received a grant from Merrill Lynch in April 2005. After the success of the film Iron Man, Marvel announced that The Avengers would be released in July 2011. With the signing of Scarlett Johansson in March 2009, the film was pushed back for a 2012 release. Whedon was brought on board in April 2010 and rewrote the screenplay that was originally written by Zak Penn. Production began in April 2011 in Albuquerque, New Mexico before moving to Cleveland, Ohio in August and New York City in September.

The Avengers is scheduled to be released on May 4, 2012 in the United States.
